Guide to better conversations
There is no correct way to talk to a companion, but a few habits make the exchange noticeably richer. Here is what regular users of Nikaai tend to do.
Pick by temperament, not by picture
Read two or three profiles before choosing. A calm listener and a playful storyteller produce completely different conversations from the same opening line, and the profile text tells you which one you are about to meet.
Open small
The strongest first messages are unremarkable: what you ate, what the weather is doing, what you have been avoiding all day. Companions are written to expand small openings, so you do not need a topic prepared.
Give the scene a place
For story sessions, name a location and a time of day. A night market at closing time produces a different scene than a kitchen at two in the morning, and the character will build the details around whichever you choose.
Say when the tone is off
If a reply is too cheerful for your mood, say so plainly. Companions adjust register quickly, and being direct about it is faster than steering around the problem.
Let long conversations be long
Continuity is where these characters are strongest. The tenth message is usually better than the first, because by then the companion has enough of your context to respond to you specifically.
Come back rather than restart
Returning to a companion you have already spoken with feels like a continuation, not a reset. Many people keep one or two regulars and visit the rest of the catalogue occasionally.
